My Priorities

01

EDUCATION BUDGET CUTS

There have been many budget cuts to our education system recently and sadly we anticipate there will be more over the next four years. Now, more than ever before, we need a progressive, cohesive and inclusive board of Trustees that will work hard for students and their families. Our school board needs to act decisively and without delay. NO MORE cuts to our education system!

02

COMMUNITY- DRIVEN AND INCLUSIVE

I want to work with school board colleagues to advocate for a strong public education system - one that is inclusive, diverse, and provides strong and accessible links to the community.

I want to work and serve as a Trustee to empower our community as well as students, by encouraging and facilitating active outreach to school councils, educators, community organizations, and above all, students.

I will advocate for increased student participation in our education system.

03

MENTAL HEALTH

Issues relating to mental health care in our schools have unfortunately been largely neglected. There is so much more we can do to address this. I will facilitate and work on this issue with board members to act swiftly and deliver results.

I also want to advocate for students with disabilities, including those with learning disabilities, and secure funding for mental health for children, staff, and educators as a whole systems approach.

04

SAFE SCHOOLS

School should be a place that provides a safe and secure environment to all children. I will work for our community schools to be safe, inclusive and where all children are welcome to learn, collaborate, grow, and perform to the best of their abilities. Bullying unfortunately is also an issue in our community schools and I plan to work with my colleagues to address this immediately. Taking steps to train staff and educators to identify and resolve issues related to bullying will be one of my top priorities.

05

GREEN SCHOOL and OUTDOOR LEARNING

Another of my priorities will be to push for reducing our carbon footprint and support greener schools in our community. We need a clear strategy and commitment towards greener schools. I will be working towards enabling schools, students, and the community to initiate and participate in ‘green school’ programs. I will also advocate for increased outdoor learning for students at our schools. Building an ‘outdoor learning’ component within the curriculum is essential to a holistic learning environment and I believe it should not be compromised.
